Underground sampling, mapping and drilling at the San Martin tunnel in Mexico has returned "significant" assays that have "greatly expanded" the project's known mineralisation, the company carrying out the work has said.

Golden Goliath said subterranean grab samples taken from the property include gold values of 6.8 g/t told, which builds on previous exploration work that discovered gold graded at 6.7 g/t gold over ten metres.

The company added that in addition to its sampling work, drilling also intercepted gold mineralisation in the recently rehabilitated tunnel.

Gold grades returned from the completed drill holes included 1.74 g/t gold over 7.75 metres, 1.25 g/t gold over 3.05 metres and 0.79 g/t gold over 4.55 metres.

Golden Goliath president and chief executive Paul Sorbara said he was "very exited" about the latest round of results.

"These newly discovered mineralisation expansion zones are very encouraging because they allow us to justify a future resource calculation as we had originally planned," he added.

Golden Goliath controls a number of properties in the Uruachic mining camp within Mexico's Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range.
