Advice for gold storage

Wednesday, 28th May 2008 (1325 views)

Perhaps one of the reasons gold is so precious and valued is because it is the softest, and therefore most vulnerable, of all the precious metals.

As any gold lover will know, the purer the gold the softer it is; in order to be able to make jewellery from gold it has to be alloyed with silver, copper and other metals, Commodity Online noted.

The website gave advice on how to store gold jewellery in light of this - also noting that even just an ounce of pure gold could be beaten out over an area of more than 27 metres square.

Gold jewellery should be kept in a velvet-lined box and individual items wrapped in tissue to protect them, the website added.

Moisture from sweat can cause damage to clasps and springs and so gold items should always by put away dry.

It also advised not to wear your gold every day or its risk of damage will increase, according to a sentiment echoed by another website, HowToDoThings.com.
