Gold production restarted at Kangaroo Flat plantWednesday, 18th June 2008 (547 views) Bendigo Mining has announced that it has restarted gold production at the Kangaroo Flat plant in Victoria.Production had to stop in 2007 "due to limited reserves" after eight months of operation. Chief financial officer of the company, Tim Churcher, said that the new start is a trail production which aims to target the most productive gold reefs, according to ABC Rural. Mr Churcher said a trail production will mean slower progress than under ordinary commercial production standards because the company is more focused on quality than quantity, the Australian broadcaster reported. Rod Hanson, managing director and chief executive officer of Bendigo, said: "The purpose of the trail is to allow us to interpret in detail the reef shape and grade by careful mining, sampling ... and processing in order to ensure we achieve the best possible result." The company is now rebuilding its work force after 150 jobs were lost the previous year. So far 20 people have been employed for the trail processing, reported ABC Central Victoria.
