The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that the two of the world's most expensive champagne glasses have been revealed by an Australian jewellery designer, according to the Australian Associated Press (AAP)

They are valued at $400,000 (£204,533), took three months for five jewellers to create and are finished with platinum 18-carat white and rose gold.

Each glass weighs 250 grams and they are covered with 1,700 diamonds.

Designer John Calleija told the AAP he experimented with many different designs including salt-and-pepper shakers and chopsticks before settling on the champagne flutes.

An anonymous businessman from Melbourne helped turned Mr Calleija's idea into a reality.

"I told him they'd be around $400,000 and he said 'I'd like to put my hand up for them ... I'll take them'," Mr Calleija said.

The Agence France-Presse news agency reported that the world's most expensive champagne is the Perrier-Jouet 2000 Belle Epoque - a single bottle costs €4,166 according to Google news.
