A jewellery expert has given tips for engaged couples wanting to design their own wedding rings.

Andy Moquin, who has worked in the jewellery industry for 20 years, suggests looking at celebrity engagement rings for inspiration and to see what the latest trends are.

Lost in Translation start Scarlett Johanssen, for example, opted for a simple gold band complete with round stone set in a bezel setting.

The actress announced her engagement to fellow actor Ryan Reynolds in May this year. Reynolds was previously engaged to Alanis Morrisette and appeared in this year's hit romance Definitely, Maybe.

Alternately, people can look towards Katie Holmes whose engagement ring sees her stone set in rose gold.

Mr Moquin said: "Designing your own engagement ring gives every girl the chance to feel like a superstar."

He advises couples to go to a jeweller for advice on how best to keep within budget while replicating a celebrity engagement ring.
