Manufacturers 'focusing on converged IP solutions software'

Tuesday, 19th August 2008 (418 views)

Providers of IP telephony systems are reportedly increasing their focus on the delivery of converged IP solutions software.

Managed services company Azzurri claims manufacturers are half way through a five or six-year transition towards converged IP network environments.

It reports traditional hardware vendors - such as Avaya and Mitel - are now moving into the software market.

Tony Corlett, product development director at the firm, said: "Eventually their products will be software products that will run on industry standard servers and gateways that will come from vendors that focus in that particular area."

He added that manufacturers are not building hardware-based solutions in this area.

Microsoft notes unified communications can be used to bridge the gap between computing and telephony to offer realtime voice, messaging and conferencing.

The market for unified communications is forecast to grow by 13 per cent in 2008, according to industry analysts Frost & Sullivan.
