Tuesday, 23rd September 2008 (5245 views) A Scottish jewellery designer who has had success in the US has returned to her native country to give a speech at a national marketing seminar, it has been reported.Maeve Gillie runs her business from New York and has won awards for her Celtic-inspired collections, according to the Edinburgh Evening News. She brought along a catalogue of her MaeVona range of yellow and rose gold bands to display at the conference. Britain is following the US in the trend for designer jewellery, she claimed, saying: "The vast majority of Americans are looking for a designer ring ... and that's certainly evolving in the UK." Ms Gillie described herself as a "global Scot" and stated that she aims to promote Scotland as a modern nation rather than in the traditional, romantic style. Meanwhile, Edinburgh-based antique jewellery trader Joseph Bonnar has told the Times that his regular customers have continued to buy his goods despite the credit crunch and economic uncertainty.
