Potential gold found in Nigerian villageMonday, 29th September 2008 (368 views) A new gold deposit has potentially been found in a Nigerian village, it has been reported.Government official Saidu Usman Dakingari visited Garin Awwal in Kebbi State last week to view the discovery, according to Leadership Nigeria. He was accompanied by several other local government representatives to the site, located around 35km from the town of Mahuta. After inspecting the deposits, he agreed that the mineral featured the characteristics of gold, yet said that it will have to be confirmed by mining experts, the news provider noted. However, Mr Dakingari was described as 'optimistic' about the finding and stated that he hopes the state of Kebbi will be able to join the group of gold-producing areas within the African nation. He warned locals to abide by the law after the discovery and wait for government action before attempting to carry out work themselves. Recently, Chinese company Yan Tai commenced exploration for gold in Nigeria's Osun State, reported allAfrica.com.
