New UK nanotechnology initiative

Friday, 10th October 2008 (571 views)

A new initiative aimed at progressing the development of nanotechnology in the UK has been launched.

The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network will team up with Bio Nano Consulting to promote the exchange of information between researchers in the field.

It is hoped that the collaboration will encourage those interested in nanotechnology - a discipline in which gold is a major element - to take part in debates on a range of topics, including its uses in medicine and electronics.

Dr Mike Fisher, who has been appointed as theme manager for the project, said he was "delighted" to be able to contribute to the "global growth and importance of nanotechnology, particularly in the healthcare and life science sectors".

He added that there have been many recent positive developments within the field.

Gold nanotechnology research has the potential to be used in a wide range of applications, including the development of high-tech artificial limbs, as highlighted by work carried out by the University of Nebraska, Nanowerk reports.
