Cambridge Mineral Resources has announced that the first gold has been poured at its Quintana gold mine in central Colombia.

Just ten days after production started at the site, gold was poured on November 19th and Cambridge now hopes that the Quintana mine will produce around 15,200 ounces of gold a year over a minimum lifetime of five years.

Having completed work on a 5.1km access road to the mine site, deepened and equipped the mine and installed a range of new facilities, Cambridge has revealed that the plant is now becoming fully operational and has commenced commercial production at a nominal 75 tonnes per day.

New facilities at the Quintana mine include a modern tailings management facility, a 60-bed mine camp and a processing plant that utilises gravity, flotation and leach processes.

Colin Andrew, Cambridge managing director, commented: "Bringing Quintana on line is a transformational step for Cambridge Mineral Resources as we move from being an exploration company into a mining production company."
