A number of pieces of ancient gold jewellery are on sale at Christie's in New York as part of the auction house's antiquities sale.

Items of particular interest in the prestigious sale include a pair of Greek gold bracelets dating from the late 4th-early 3rd century BC.

The Hellenistic bracelets are crafted from a hollow embellished hoop of gold that overlaps at each end, with each terminal forming a lion head.

Scheduled to be sold on November 9th at the antiquities and ancient jewellery sale in New York, the bracelets have an estimated sale price of $80,000 (£53,000) - $120,000.

Other gold jewellery highlights from the sale include a pair of Neo-Assyrian gold earrings dating from the 8th-9th century BC, a 1st-2nd century necklace of 12 Roman ringstones, a Greek gold and eye agate necklace, a pair of Byzantine earrings and a Roman gold medallion of Luna.

Christie's sold an 18-c yellow gold watch to a European collector for a record price at a sale in Geneva last week.
