Monday, 24th November 2008 (1021 views) Eurasian Minerals has revealed that it has been granted the Caraci-Birtin exploration licence in Romania.Covering 35.24sq km in central Romania's Golden Quadrilateral mining district, the five-year licence covers the abandoned Caraci gold mine, from which around 500,000 tonnes of ore have been extracted at a grade of approximately 15 g/t gold. According to Eurasian, the district has been exploited for gold for more than two millennia and includes Europe's largest gold deposit at Rosia Montana. The firm has analysed drill core samples and confirmed an average grade of 4.4 g/t gold and acquired relevant data relating to previous exploration at the Caraci and Birtin mines. Eurasian has also published an update on its other activities in Romania in which it states that exploration in its Pucaru prospect has "identified favorable geology and alteration hosting a robust geochemical anomaly". A mining company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Eurasian plans to start an exploration programme at its Caraci-Birtin property during spring 2009 and the company also has properties in eastern Europe, Turkey, the Kyrgyz Republic and Haiti.
