Capstone Mining has announced that its Minto copper-gold mine in the Yukon has been officially connected to the electrical grid.

The premier of the Yukon, the minister of economic development, the minister of energy mines and resources and Capstone president and chief operating officer, Stephen Quin, attended a ceremony to mark the connection of the prospect to the Yukon Energy grid.

According to the mining firm, the connection will reduce its energy costs and increase benefits to shareholders

"Connection to Yukon Energy’s electrical grid represents the culmination of a two-year co-operative effort," Mr Quin said. "The economic benefits of this project are widespread."

The Yukon Energy electrical grid has been extended around 80km north from Carmacks to Minto Landing in order to reach the Minto mine.

Capstone Mining recently completed a merger with Sherwood Copper to form a new mining business which includes Sherwood's Minto mine.
