Firstgold has announced that it has started to process ore at its Relief Canyon mine, with crushed ore stacked on the new heap leach pad.

Over the coming weeks at the mine, a full cyanide solution will be added to the ore, which will be collected and processed at the new Firstgold process plant.

The company predicted that initial collection of gold values will occur in early January 2009.

Scott Dockter, Firstgold founder and chief operating officer, said: "It's exciting to move out of the construction phase and we are looking forward to this production phase."

Firstgold has amended its plan of operation over the past year, designed and erected a new process plant, crushers and heap leach pad, as well as bringing the Relief Canyon mine into production.

The Relief Canyon mine is located outside Lovelock, Nevada and Firstgold has leased more than 10,000 acres of prime exploration property in the state, on which it is conducting ongoing exploration work.
