Great Basin Gold has published the results of an exploration drilling programme at its Hollister property in Nevada.

The company claims that it has encountered "bonanza" gold grades at the prospect for the first quarter of 2009, including an "exceptional" underground borehole HDB-274, which intersected 1,718 g/t gold over 0.23 m on the western strike extension of the Central Clementine vein.

Great Basin Gold completed 25 vein intersections during the three months to the end of March this year in excess of 34.28 g/t gold, with high-grade intersections reported.

Ferdi Dippenaar, Great Basin Gold president and chief executive, commented: "Good progress continues to be made with the planned exploration programs of the Hollister Development Block and the Hatter Graben discovery area."

The company's underground evaluation and exploration drilling over the quarter for mineralised structures totalled 4,092m, while surface drilling totalled 439m.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Great Basin Gold owns mining assets in the Witwatersrand Basin of South Africa and the Carlin Trend of Nevada and aims to become a low-cost mid-tier gold producer.
