A growing number of beauty products are being produced that include gold, an expert has suggested.

Bobbie Thomas, Today style editor and author of the Buzz for In Touch Weekly, has highlighted some of the cosmetics that contain the precious metal in an article for MSNBC.

Examples include a 24-c gold facial by Umo that is "designed to bring out a brighter complexion" and Jane Iredale's 24-c Gold Dust, which contains flakes that add a shimmer to skin.

YSL's Golden Gloss, with 24-c gold powder for glossy lips, the Gold Leaf Collection from Linden Leaves, Roger & Gallet Jean Marie Farina Eau De Cologne, Vavoom's Gold Heat styling range for hair and Redken's UV Rescue Protective Oil were also mentioned.

The Oro Gold range of skin care products includes 24-c gold from Italy and the company claims that a three-year study developed a "gold-leaf process which recreates the golden mask of Cleopatra for today's woman".

Gold has historically been used to defy the ageing process and is believed to be the key to youth in ancient Chinese medicine, according to the firm.
