Two gold ingots dating back to the California Gold Rush will go on display in California next month.

Recovered from the SS Central America during the 1980s, the two ingots collectively weigh more than 100 pounds and will be shown at the Long Beach Coin, Stamp & Collectibles Expo between September 10th and 12th by Monaco Rare Coins.

The ingots comprise a 662.28-ounce Kellogg & Humbert gold bar valued at $12,225 (£7,545) in 1857 and a Justh & Hunter bar weighing 598.08 troy ounces, valued at $11,089.

Monaco Rare Coins will also display several gold Augustus Humbert $50 coins that produced in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush.

"These colossal gold bars and big $50 coins, literally, are treasures of Wild West history," commented Adam Crum, vice-president of Monaco Rare Coins.

Sunk off the coast of the Carolinas during a hurricane in 1857, the SS Central America carried several tonnes of gold coins, ingots, nuggets and dust.
