Tuesday, 17th November 2009 (3001 views) A number of gold coins have been nominated for the 2010 Coin of the Year awards run by Krause Publications.All of the coins in the running for an accolade were released in 2008 and will be examined by a panel of numismatic experts to see which ones are most deserving of a prize. The main categories include Most Historic Coin, Best Contemporary Event Coin, Best Gold Coin, Best Crown Coin, Most Popular and Most Artistic, NumisMaster reports. Some of the gold pieces nominated for honours in one of these sections include Austria's 100 Crown of the Holy Roman Empire coin, the Perth Mint's AU$50 Discover Australia Porpoise coin and the Isle of Man's half-crown King Tut Mummy Mask coin. The winners will be announced in January. In the 2009 edition of the awards, the Royal Danish Mint's 1,000 kroner Polar Bear coin won the title of Best Gold Coin.
